Media and Psychedelics with Dr. Lee Hoffer

We are excited to host Dr. Lee Hoffer, a distinguished cultural and medical anthropologist, who will present his latest research on psilocybin in Cleveland. 

Dr. Hoffer’s expertise spans illegal drug use and substance use disorders. His influential work has explored a variety of topics, including HIV risk behaviors among drug injectors, medication misuse, substance use disorder diagnostics, drug policy, and community-based intervention strategies. Currently, his research focuses on monitoring and predicting drug use trends, as well as examining the impact of illicit drug markets and acquisition on individuals.

In his latest project, Dr. Hoffer investigates how media narratives shape perceptions of psilocybin within the context of the contemporary "psychedelic renaissance." His research team has also conducted interviews with Clevelanders who use psilocybin for non-recreational purposes, shedding light on their experiences and journeys.
